After retiring one thing on my wish list was learning to paint. Painting has provided me with an enjoyable, relaxing hobby which I wish I had taken up earlier. It has also given me a greater appreciation of the wonderful colours that nature surrounds us with.

I always had an interest in drawing from childhood. I have selected oils as my preferred medium because, if I stuff it up, I can cover it up and continue. I am exploring many directions in oil painting landscapes, seascapes, portraits and abstracts.

I am a hobby artist who has been painting for over 20 years. My favorite mediums are oil or watercolour, but I have also dabbled in pastels (getting into them with my fingers to blend colours). I love painting landscapes, which include putting horses, dogs, birds or possums into them, to bring the painting alive. I attend a few art shows a year and get a buzz if I have sod one, or won a prize. Recently I won first prize at the Whittlesea show for an Oil painting of a wildcat among foliage.

I worked in the disability field as an instructor, specializing in arts and crafts, teach adults with disability. Currently a member of Craigieburn Art Group, I am developing my art skills. My many Australian Landscape paintings adorn in my hallway and are frequently admired by the traveller, who pass through.

It was in the year 2000 that I purchased an ‘how to’ art magazine. I quickly moved on from doing still life drawings to watercolours. Over the following years, through art classes and demonstrations, I learned how to use various mediums. Today I prefer pastels. My favourite subjects are children, and nature. I have had success with these at art shows, competitions and sales. I find it invaluable to be a member of an art group, to continue my growth as an artist.

From childhood, I enjoyed drawing from nature, especially trees. A few times in my adult life, opportunities have enabled me to embellish an aricle, item or walls. During 2020 lockdowns, I developed a yearning to reconnect with nature and started doing regular paintings and printing. As a Herbalist and Naturopath, foraging for seeds and plants is a joy. Joining CAG has boosted my opportunity to do creative works, regularly & learn from others.
